Dan Tatum is the featured Huntsville Art League Limelight artist for July. His one man show titled “Far Away Places” displays Dan’s art with images from Beijing, China in the Far East, to the Greek Isle of Santorini in the Aegean Sea. Pieces include originals and prints of watercolors, pastels, and photographs. In his paintings, Dan captures not only images of places visited but also the emotions felt while visiting places with strange sounding names. When asked the favorite place visited on an art research trip he cannot pick just one but mentions: China, Tahiti, St. John US Virgin Islands, Santorini, Italy, Scotland, and most all of the great U.S. National Parks in the West.
As an artist, I am a creator and interpreter. I believe every human is created to be a creator in the image of God. I create because that is who I am. One of the ways to express my creativity is to use my talent as an artist. It is very intimidating standing before my easel as an artist, the paper is without form and void. On the paper through the media of watercolor or pastel or with my camera, I often create images of many great places I’ve been able to visit. Other times I create images of what could be and invite the observer to see from a different perspective. As I continue my art journey, I am encouraged and taught by those who have made the journey before me, by my peers, by those who see my work and compliment it, and especially by those who chose to purchase one of my creations.
Dan hopes to personally greet you at a RECEPTION at the Huntsville Art League Gallery and Studios.
