The “Dixie Girls” is the brainchild of artist Ann Caudle, who wanted to gather a group of accomplished artists to share their passion for painting. Membership is by invitation, and the group is limited to 12 artists. Each month a new challenge is issued with a new theme. The finished piece must fall within the maximum size allowance of 109 square inches. Materials may be oils, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, or whatever — as long as it hangs on the wall!
A blog, http://dixiegirlspaintchallenge.blogspot.com/, is updated each month with photos of the most recent challenge and links to the artists’ personal sites. “Dixie Girls” art is also shown monthly at “Studio 100” at 117 North Side Square, just around the corner from “Gallery on the Square.” Recent exhibits included “Celebration!” at Lowe Mill ARTS and Entertainment in May to commemorate the one year anniversary of the founding of the group.
Current members include: Ann Caudle, Robin Roberts, Heike Covell, Patricia Hrivnak, Joyce Lowery, Yuri Ozaki, Katrina Weber, and S. Renee Prasil. Founding members include these artists plus Nancy Harper, Sara Beth Fair, Kay Heckman, and Pamela Watters. All of these artists are or have been members of Huntsville Art League. We are delighted to welcome them back!
An Artists’ Reception will be held on Friday, 24 August, 5-7 PM.
