Sandra Colwell Lasater has been an artist for a relatively short time and realizing her talent has been a great adventure. Her desire as an artist is to portray beauty and serenity in her paintings, giving the viewer a sense of peace. Pastels give such a soft look to her paintings with very vibrant colors.
Harriet is basically a self-taught artist. She learned perspective from architecture classes at the University of Florida. She has also taken a few art classes in oils and watercolors over the years. When she started using pastels in 1996, she fell in love with this medium. She has participated in juried art shows all over the country including the Artist Magazine’s juried show and has won awards in many of these shows. She has paintings in private collections in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.
I feel fortunate to have had several mentors through the years who have encouraged me to develop my own vision. Those teachers have not limited my creativity, but have urged the use of various media and forms of expression. For that I am grateful.
